In June 2016 I was commissioned to create and paint what ultimately became a very individual and personal piece for my patron. She wanted a large and colourful painting for a specific location, and that was the sum total of the initial brief.

However I was not satisfied that the proposed picture would justify the very prominent position where it would be permanently displayed, that it would be creative enough, interesting enough and intriguing enough!

So I persuaded my patron to work with me through a very detailed and creative process to design the artwork below in Photoshop. Only once we had determined the meaning, emotion, symbolism, style, medium and finish, did I commence to paint the actual work.

The painting was styled in a mix of modern abstract and realism and incorporated both significant symbolism and personal meaning for the patron, whilst maintaining a broader bright and interesting aestheticism for any viewer. In this way it both met the initial brief, but also added a far deeper dimension which will hopefully be enjoyed for years to come..
